Psychological Evaluations:
The Process and Benefits

What can a psychological evaluation do for me?

Psychological evaluations can offer information, validation, and treatment recommendations for a variety of psychological disorders. Many disorders have overlapping symptoms, making it difficult to find the correct diagnosis. Psychological testing provides a comprehensive look at all symptoms and can differentiate between disorders. Having the proper diagnosis can better direct therapeutic and medication treatment. Psychological evaluations are also an effective tool for clients to learn more about their strengths and challenges. Victoria consistently receives feedback from her testing clients that the evaluation process was a validating, empowering experience. If you have questions about your symptoms and experience, psychological testing is a great way to find answers.

Types of Evaluations

There are a wide variety of evaluation options available to meet your specific needs. Victoria works with each client to assist in determining what type of evaluation is the best fit based on their situation. Evaluation types include Psychoeducational, ADHD, Learning Disability, Law Enforcement Pre-Employment, and IQ testing. At this time, evaluations are only offered in person.

What is the evaluation process?

The evaluation process starts with a free 30-minute consultation to ensure Victoria is the provider that can best meet your needs. This consultation will also cover any insurance and payments questions you may have. The evaluation process contains three appointments: the intake, the assessment, and the feedback session.

Intake
Victoria will meet with you and/or your child to discuss all information relevant for testing. Our goal is to learn the most about the client’s symptoms, experiences, and challenges. Intake questions may also include discussion about any previous testing, teacher and/or parent observations, and medical history. The intake takes approximately one hour to complete.

Assessment
The next session will include the administration of the assessment batteries. These assessments measure traits such as overall intelligence, attention, social-emotional functioning, and other personality traits. Based on the testing questions, the assessment portion can last between 1.5-3 hours. Because this is a large chunk of time, you and/or your child are more than welcome to bring a snack and a drink.

Feedback
After all assessments have been completed, Victoria provides a detailed report that includes information from the intake, interpretation of testing results, diagnostic impressions, and recommendations for treatment. Victoria explains all results in a clear, strengths-based manner. Each report includes an extensive list of therapeutic, and if necessary, medication recommendations based on the client’s unique profile. This feedback session is scheduled for an hour. Once the evaluation reaches the conclusion, Victoria will remain a resource for her clients for as long as they need it.

Victoria values the opportunity to help her clients better understand their symptoms, diagnosis, and experiences. Because she is a therapist to her core, she ensures that all evaluations are completed with empathy, support, and active listening.
